The Best Cayman Islands Beaches
Seven Mile Beach
Considered the “Jewel of the Cayman Islands,” Seven Mile Beach is the most popular vacation spot in the Cayman Islands. Many of Grand Cayman’s luxurious resorts and seaside hotels can be found scattered the sandy shores of Seven Mile Beach. The beach is public, so even if you’re not staying at one of the local resorts, you can still enjoy the beach’s powdery white sand and turquoise waters. You’ll also find many restaurants along the beach, so after a morning of relaxing with your toes in the sand, you can enjoy a leisurely lunch while sipping a cocktail and listening to the soft waves. This beach is excellent for families as the water is typically calm and safe for swimming. Seven Mile Beach was recognized in the 2025 World’s 50 Best Beaches.

Starfish Point
If you’re looking for a secluded beach in the Cayman Islands, Starfish Point is the perfect getaway. This beach is located on the island’s North side, just southwest of Rum Point. Visitors can get to this small beach area by car or boat. Many boat tours stop off at Starfish Point to see the beach’s main attraction: starfish. The beach itself is small and is surrounded by calm shallow waters. A few feet from shore, the seabed drops to about ten feet. While visitors can usually see some of the starfish in the shallow waters, most are hidden in the deeper waters. Make sure to bring your snorkel or join a boat tour to view the starfish in the depths of the water. Please don’t lift starfish out of the water, even briefly – this can seriously harm them. Observe and photograph these beautiful sea creatures while keeping them submerged. Feeling thirsty after your day at the beach? Head to Kaibo Beach Bar, just a short walk away, for a refreshing tropical cocktail.

Smith Cove
Smith Cove, also known as Smith’s Barcadere, is a charming secluded beach that is excellent for snorkeling. Located in Grand Cayman’s South Sound area, it’s about a five to ten-minute drive from George Town and the cruise port. The beach features powdery sand leading up to scenic rocky outcroppings that meet gorgeous, clear blue water. As a protected marine area, Smith Cove offers vibrant marine life close to shore, making it great for beginner snorkelers who want to stay near the beach and catch their first glimpse of colorful fish and coral formations. Close to shore, the shallow waters are typically calm, with the snorkeling area about 30 yards offshore in water that’s 8-10 feet deep. There’s no boat traffic here, so snorkelers can explore at their own pace in safety. Smith Cove is a highly-rated beach for those wanting to avoid the crowds, and it’s also one of the best spots on the island to watch the sunset.

Cemetery Beach
Located at the northern end of Seven Mile Beach, and technically part of it, Cemetery Beach is still worth mentioning on its own. The name comes from the small historic cemetery that stands just behind the beach, which make the area unique and peaceful. This quieter stretch of Seven Mile Beach is one of the few areas with excellent snorkeling opportunities. There are healthy reefs located about 50-60 yards offshore, where snorkelers can see a variety of sea life including parrotfish, angelfish, sea turtles, and occasional stingrays. Keep in mind that this snorkel spot is best suited for experienced swimmers and those comfortable in deeper water. I’s not recommended for beginners due to the distance from shore and depth. The water just off the shore is shallow and perfect for swimming, with shade provided by casuarina trees. This beach is ideal for visitors who wish to stay on Seven Mile Beach while avoiding the crowds.

Spotts Beach
Spotts Beach can be found on the southern side of Grand Cayman, about a 20-minute drive from George Town and the tourist area of Seven Mile Beach. Trust us, it’s worth the visit if you are renting a car. This beautiful beach is famous for the wild sea turtles that can regularly be seen feeding on the abundant seagrass just offshore, sometimes you can spot them from the beach as they surface to breathe. The turtles are often found to the left of the dock when facing the water. While there is a barrier reef off the beach, it is quite far from shore (around 100 yards), so snorkeling to the reef should only be attempted by experienced, strong swimmers. It’s important to note that currents at Spotts Beach can be strong. For those who prefer not to snorkel in deeper waters, this is still a lovely, uncrowded beach to relax on, with a great chance of seeing turtles from the water’s edge.

Rum Point
Rum Point is located on the north side of Grand Cayman and is beloved by both tourists and locals alike. Following a complete renovation in 2022-2023, Rum Point has been transformed into a stunning beach destination while maintaining its laid-back Caribbean charm. The area now features Solis at Rum Point, an upscale beachfront restaurant serving Caribbean and Mediterranean cuisine, plus the impressive Rum Deck, a 50-foot waterfront bar with shade sails and 15,000 square feet of decking where bare feet and swimwear are the dress code. Be sure to arrive early to snag one of the hammocks strewn between coconut trees near the water. Rum Point is the birthplace of the famous Mudslide cocktail, invented here in the 1970s – it’s a must-try! The beach also has jet skis, kayaks, and paddleboard rentals for the more adventurous. Rum Point is a great beach to relax with family while enjoying crystal-clear, shallow waters that seem to go on forever.

Old Man Bay Beach
Old Man Bay Beach is an undeveloped stretch of coastline, which makes it perfect for rustic relaxing and exploring. Located on the northern side of Grand Cayman between Rum Point and the East End, the beaches here are usually far less crowded than those on Seven Mile Beach. This area is full of hidden coves and soft, white sand to sink your toes into, though the shoreline can be rocky in some spots, so water shoes are helpful when entering the water. Snorkeling is excellent here when waters are calm, with reefs stretching from Rum Point to Old Man Bay offering diverse marine life. Old Man Bay Beach is perfect for those seeking solitude and an authentic, off-the-beaten-path Caribbean experience. The popular Over The Edge restaurant is less than a mile away if you’re looking to grab drinks and a meal with beautiful ocean views.

Colliers Public Beach
Colliers Beach, also known as East End Public Beach, is a tranquil public beach on the eastern side of Grand Cayman. The beach features wide sandy areas with several covered gazebos and picnic shelters, making it the perfect setting for a peaceful family picnic or watching a spectacular Caribbean sunrise. Colliers Beach is an excellent choice for families with little ones, offering shallow, calm waters ideal for wading. The water does contain turtle grass and seagrass where you can sometimes spot baby fish hiding from predators. The bottom can be rocky and slippery with some algae, so water shoes are recommended. On windy days, this beach becomes popular for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Governors Beach
How does snorkeling right next to the Governor’s residence sound? This relaxing section of Seven Mile Beach, located near the Westin Grand Cayman resort, is a favorite among families and snorkeling enthusiasts. Governors Beach is a lovely spot to float on the calm, crystal-clear water with a cool drink, enjoy excellent snorkeling, or take a romantic sunset stroll. The reef is located about 100-200 yards offshore, where snorkelers can spot a wonderful variety of marine life including colorful fish, coral formations, and occasionally stingrays. Confident swimming ability is recommended to reach the reef. If you visit during June and July, keep an eye out for the tasty sea grapes that fall from the trees lining the beach. Make sure to bring your own chairs and refreshments, as there are no rental facilities or vendors directly on this section of beach.

West Bay Beach
West Bay Beach can be found at the northern end of Seven Mile Beach. This beach is perfect for enjoying Caribbean sunshine, calm waters, and a breathtaking shoreline while mingling with locals who love this spot. West Bay Beach is another excellent place to swim, snorkel, or simply enjoy a gorgeous, technicolor Grand Cayman sunset. The beach features a family-friendly playground, making it a great option for those traveling with kids. West Bay Beach also has an easily accessible boat ramp and pier, this is the location where spectators gathered to watch the historic sinking of the USS Kittiwake, which now serves as a popular dive and snorkel site just offshore.
